I have a central air conditioning system. We left it on last night with the windows open (by mistake) and then switched it off after 3 hours. The A/C now doesn’t work anymore. Could leaving the window open (it was relatively cool outside) have conked the compressor, or any other part of the unit.

my 2003 pt cruiser keeps running hot when I run the air conditioner?
March 11th, 2010I have flushed the cooling system so far and replaced the radiator fan as my mechanic said that the the low heat part of it wasn’t working. I took it back to him and he told me to let it go all of the way to hot which I am not planning to do. Can anyone help
Car Air Conditioner Problems…?
March 11th, 2010I own a 1996 Ford Mustang and when I turn on the Air Conditioner on the upper part of the car, or on cycle it doesn’t work through the vents that hit you in the face/chest area. However the vents do work on the windshield and the side windows. Sometimes at random they will kick in and I can get some cold air onto my face and chest area. What is the problem and how do I fix it?
WOW! Thanks for all the answers

Air conditioner trouble D:?
March 10th, 2010We have an air conditioner and when ever its not on fan and its "cooling" water starts to build up in the back and makes a scraping noise which im pretty sure is the fan hitting the water. how do i keep it from doing this? Should I drill more holes in the bottom where the water drains? i think the hole is blocked by something but I’m just wondering if i can fix it by drilling several larger holes in the same part of the air conditioner? Thanks
Lincoln Town Car 2000 air conditioner/heater control display?
March 10th, 2010I am having trouble figuring out how to remove/replace the digital air conditioning/heater control switch unit that is located below the radio. I’m not sure whether to remove the ash tray below the unit or if I have to remove another part of the dash. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
I just acquired an old hotspot air conditioner that was stored for several years in a basement.?
March 9th, 2010It is really dusty and smells musty when it is on. Is it possible to clean the part on top that looks like steel wool where all the dust and dirt is-I don’t see a way to access it or even replace it. I am concerned about breathing in all this dust and dirt
Air Conditioner to Heat Pool?
March 9th, 2010Is it possible to use an air conditioner to heat a pool? It seems like I might be able to use a liquid heat exchanger to cool the hot part of the air conditioning cycle using swimming pool water. Can someone give me an overview of how to build a system like the following myself (or at low cost by requesting the right work to be done by a professional)?

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/3976123.html
Thanks in advance! This could be very cool! But I’m also wondering why it seems there are not a lot of people aready doing this — leads me to believe that it might not be worthwhile. Perhaps the air conditioner does not put off enough heat to be useful?
Note: I have also been looking at heat pump systems, which I might end up with, but it would sure be nice if it were possible to modify the existing system instead at a reasonable cost.
To the poster who asks if there is a correlation between air conditioner use and need for pool heat, in my case, yes there is for several months of the year. Even in the hottest months, this could potentially be used to focus all the heat towards the spa, or for household hot water.
Another poster asks if it’s feasible, and there seem to be patents and some devices that do this for either pools or household hot water. Also, stand alone heat pumps are sold for this purpose and they are very similar to what I am proposing here. Air conditioners extract heat from indoors and dissipate it to the air — wasting it. Heat pumps are sold to extract heat from the air to heat the pool — wasting the cold that they generate by dissipating it into the air. Is it possible to have the best of all worlds — nothing wasted + use the existing AC equip through modification?
Air conditioner STILL won't work in an outlet that checks out okay. Help?
March 9th, 2010This is part two to the question that I was helped with earlier today (thanks to all who answered). Part one was: I had power in an outlet but my 240V Air conditioner would not work when plugged in. I called Con Ed who had botched up some work a few months ago, they came, they blamed it on the last crew and they fixed it. My 2nd floor A/C works but my 1st floor still does not.
I ran the A/C by extension cord to the upstairs outlet. Plugged it on, it works. So I know the A/C is not faulty.
Next I bought a multimeter and tested the outlet.
Voltage is 240 which is where it should be.
Resistance is between 4.4 – 4.3 which the manual says is ok.
Continuity is OK according to the multimeter, in other words the multimeter buzzed.
I also measured diodes not knowing what that means but it came up OK. The manual says it should be 0.5 – 0.8, mine was 0.5.
So I’m stumped! I have the right voltage and everything else looks good. And I know my A/C is ok. Why won’t it work?
Hey JimmyC,
To clarify. It definitely is a 240v unit. The extension cord that I got was specifically for A/Cs and rated for 240v 20amp. The prongs are one horizontal, one vertical and one round (ground). I plugged it into another 240v outlet that runs an A/C upstairs. I didn’t take my readings through the slits on the outlet, I took the outlet cover off and placed them on the screws on the side. I tested voltage and measured diodes with the power on. Then I threw both breakers and cut the power to test resistence and continuity. This is how I was told to do it in the multimeter manual. And forgive my ignorance, but you mention an ohm meter, is that the same as my multimeter?
And emailing or IMing would be helpful but I think you need to changed your Yahoo Answers profile to allow emailing and IMing. I need to do the same. Thanks again. Hope I helped clarify.

Can a car air conditioner radiator with a pin-sized hole be repaired?
March 5th, 2010We were told that our van’s air conditioner radiator had a pin-sized hole and that we would need to replace that, the condenser, and a couple of other parts of the whole air conditioner system. It seems to me that a pin-sized hole should be able to be soldered or patched or something. Can anyone tell me if the mechanic was right or if I need to find a second or third opinion?
It’s a 2003 Dodge Caravan.
Thanks, everyone, for your expertise! You helped to clarify what the parts are and why it is best to replace them. It has helped us make a decision about what to do.
Should you shut your air conditioner off after it's been on for 2 days or will it be ok for another 24 hours
March 5th, 2010It’s fairly new. I think iit’s under 4 years old and seems to be running well and the wires aren’t hot. It will be 100 today in the NE part of the U.S. Should I leave it on? I clean the filter every 3 days.
Aussie Air air conditioner – warranty service number?
March 2nd, 2010Does anybody have a phone number for the warranty service centre for these air conditioners. I purchased Aussie Air Reverse Cycle Airconditioner a few years ago. Came with 12 months parts and labour and 5 years compressor parts only warranty. Warranty is worth crap now, as the warranty service number no longer exists. The warranty is only good as long as the manufacturer is still in business and supports it. I can’t get my aussie air air conditioner repaired now, because nobody has parts for it. My air conditioning repairer has tried to get parts everywhere. This means I have to essentially toss it out and buy a new one.
What causes a noise when I turn the air condition pump?
March 2nd, 2010I have replaced all the air condition parts put the conditioner.

Air Conditioner BRANDS?
February 25th, 2010I am trying to get quotes on air conditioners. I’ve heard that Trane and Lennox are good. I’ve heard that Goodman is not so good? Does anyone have bad experiences with any of these? The Trane quote (includes: condensing unit, A coil, labor, and tax) is ,491 with a 5 year parts warranty. The Goodman quote (same things included) is ,110 with a 10 year parts warranty. I’m just nervous about the goodman. Any advice?
